Canada does not tax family income, it taxes based on individual Taxable Income (TI). In 2018, the federal income tax rate of taxable income over $205,842 is 33%. All other income tax brackets are at lower rates under Trudeau than Harper's 2015 rates. In 2019, TI over $210, 371.

I grew up lower-middle income. If you make under $55000 in 2019 as a household you aren’t “giving half” to the government. The highest tax bracket pays 33% federal income tax (I’m not even close to that). You also reap fantastic benefits from living in Canada.

Not sure where you got that sheet from, this is the federal income tax rate in 2019 straight from the Government of Canada website. That's $48,718.70 by the time you make enough to hit the final 210 grand bracket.

Watch an incredibly stupid person make the best case we have heard to date ..... for bringing back the 50% federal income tax bracket and the 70% bracket on unearned income. Does she do anything useful for a living?

Ah, but what about the guy earning *$11* million? THEY'D have to pay more: Today: They'd pay around $4.03 million. Add a 70% bracket over $10M: They'd pay around $4.36 million. Their effective federal tax rate would go from 36.6% to...39.6%. Cry me a fucking river.

Since the yield on U.S Treasuries is taxable at the federal level, if you are in the top income tax bracket, and you buy a 10-year Treasury with a 2.9% yield, with annual CPI also increasing at 2.9%, your real after tax yield is minus 1.2%.

Just to trace the dollars back: Let's say I'm Trump, and you owe me $500k. I say, "you're in the 50% tax bracket (state+federal), so put $1 million into my foundation, take the deduction, and it's the same $500k to you." (This appears to be what Trump did with $ from WWE.) 1/3

Some overseas federal workers were allowed to write off the allowances paid to relocate, a great relief to those who would end up in a higher tax bracket thanks to such payments, which Congress reclassified in 2017 as taxable income.

Any Australian who thinks they are better off under Morrison's PR spin has been conned. Federal income tax revenue rising by 5-7% each of next four financial years, well above inflation and rate of wage increases. Labor wants even bigger income tax increases via bracket creep.

(2nd item):"Cuomo refuses to tell truth about federal tax law..claimed 'basically a tax cut for the richest Americans'&'..raise NY’s taxes by about 30%...'None of this is true..over 80%..will get tax cut..those who pay more..in highest income brackets."

charles_gaba 5 Jan 2019
Either is lying or he's a complete idiot. Today, a single person earning $1 million would pay around $331K in federal taxes. If you added a 70% bracket for income over $10M, the guy earning $1 million would pay...$331K in federal taxes.

I don’t care if someone is a billionaire- a federal tax bracket of 39.6% is obnoxious.

FrankQuattrone 20 Dec 2017
Please explain to me exactly how this bill is not a TAX INCREASE for the highest income earners in California who will no longer be able to deduct the state’s extremely high income taxes and property taxes on federal returns. Net increase for the highest bracket, not net benefit.

tobeselfevident 4 Jan 2019
YES ! “The 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s: Over [those] three decades, the top federal income tax rate remained high, never dipping below 70 percent.” 👆 pre , we had tax brackets for the wealthiest at 70-90%

FrankQuattrone 20 Dec 2017
It’s actually a net tax increase for highest bracket taxpayers in CA because the loss of deduction for state and local income and property taxes more than offsets the slightly lower top federal rate. So it’s actually a net tax increase for the top 1% in CA.

Mike_Laidlaw 5 Jan 2019
Tax brackets are used in Canada as well. For a glimpse at the federal rates, they’re here: though it’s important to note that the are provincial taxes as well on top of those.

the hyde amendment currently prevents the use of federal funds to pay for abortion EXCEPT to save the life of the woman or if the pregnancy arises from incest or rape, so don’t worry sweetie, im sure your low tax bracket job won’t be funding any abortions any time soon, if at all
